Ken Dewey, a regional climatologist in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, received the 2018 Public Education Award from the National Weather Association. The award recognizes an individual or organization significantly contributing to an increase in the public's weather awareness.

"For being a champion of severe weather and climate outreach, organizing the Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium and Family Weatherfest (CPSWS) in Lincoln, NE year after year since 1999, and running a national weather camp program," the NWA citation says.

Dewey, a faculty member in the university's geography program, was nominated for this award by meteorologist Cathy Zapotocny. He will be recognized at the organization's Annual Awards Luncheon on August 29, 2018.
